RICHMOND, VA – The Board of Directors of the Sacred Heart Center announced today the hiring of a new Executive Director, Tanya M. González. Sacred Heart Center serves as a hub for Richmond’s Latino community that opens opportunities for economic and social integration, family success and community leadership.

“After completing a national search, we were pleased to find an extremely qualified leader right here in Richmond,” said Rev. Shay Auerbach, SJ, chair of the board. “Tanya’s breadth of experience and her ties to the community will help us better serve the Latino community.”
González comes from the City of Richmond’s Office of Multicultural Affairs where she developed and managed the city’s first immigrant integration program for the last 12 years. She also currently serves as an Advisory Board member with Hope in the Cities and has served on various boards and commissions over the years.

She has received various awards in her career including the Leadership Metro Richmond’s Ukrop Community Vision Award, May 2015; the Ohtli award from Mexican Institute for Mexicans Abroad, Washington, D.C. Mexican Consulate, August 2005 and recognition as one of the “Top 40 under 40” Style Weekly magazine, September 2005.

“I am excited about stepping into this role, “says González. “It aligns with my skills and passion for continuing to serve the Latino community.”

González starts with the organization Monday, July 25, 2016.
