Position Overview

The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is responsible for creating an environment for impactful and positive volunteer engagement at the Sacred Heart Center, thus providing meaningful opportunities for diverse people to further the work of the Center.

 

Key Responsibilities

The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will have the following primary responsibilities:

 

Recruit & Onboard Volunteers

  • Work with other staff to develop volunteer opportunities based on Center needs
  • Recruit volunteers using VolunteerMatch and HandsOnRVA, as well as through other networking opportunities
  • Maintain accurate volunteer profiles and service hours in Bloomerang database
  • Interview potential volunteers and find a good fit based on Center needs
  • Give volunteer orientations and tours
  • Maintain volunteer orientation and manual
  • Train and onboard volunteers, as well as develop continuing education opportunities for them
  • Make sure volunteer background screenings and appropriate trainings required have been obtained to ensure compliance with Center policies

 

Sustain volunteers

  • Follow-up with current volunteers to make sure their experience is satisfactory
  • Create a strategy to engage volunteers at all levels of our organization
  • Help staff work with volunteers, and ensure that supervisory roles are clear for each volunteer
  • Prepare reports with service hours
  • Ensure that all programs and volunteers are implemented and operating according to relevant policies and procedures
  • Complete all required reports as designated by funding sources

 

Other tasks

  • Be the point person for service project/done-in-a-day volunteers, including scheduling, planning, and logistics
  • Support additional administrative needs of office on an as needed basis
  • Work as part of a team with other SHC staff to accomplish overall organizational goals

Experience and Attributes: 
Ideal candidates for this position will share our commitment to open opportunities for economic and social integration, family success and community leadership for Richmond’s Latino community, and have related experience, including:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum two years’ experience in a human service organization, especially working with volunteers
  • Ability to connect with others and forge strong relationships
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, bicultural
  • Highly organized, analytical, IT-competent – proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to organize and maintain detailed records; complete necessary paperwork and meet deadlines
  • Exemplary record of strong communication skills and customer service focus, excellent follow-up, and an ability to work with diverse groups in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and to work flexible a schedule, including occasional weekends, is preferred.
