Position Overview

The Adult Education Program Coordinator is responsible for administering and implementing educational programs for adults at Sacred Heart Center.  

 

Key Responsibilities

The Adult Education Programs Coordinator will have the following primary responsibilities:

 

Plan and implement programs for adults

  • Schedule classes, registrations, facilities and volunteers as required
  • Train volunteer and staff teachers and tutors following current trends in education
  • Support volunteers and students’ needs to ensure better program outcomes
  • Monitor the use of equipment and facilities
  • Promote adult education programs
  • Conduct marketing and outreach to promote programs
  • Attend community meetings to promote programs and identify opportunities for adult education with local and regional organizations
  • Maintain contacts with local and regional organizations in order to build collaborative relationships
  • Expand current programs based on need
  • Work with Director of Programs to plan new programming, as appropriate

 

Administer programs

  • Provide overall coordination to current SHC programming, including GED, English as a Second Language, Citizenship, Spanish literacy, Spanish classes, and computer literacy.
  • Provide direct supervision to Adult Programs part-time staff and volunteers that directly administer programs
  • Create a yearly plan for programming that seeks to expand SHC current programs
  • Set up and ensure proper use of student database
  • Maintain various databases and leverage resources that support the programs
  • Provide input regarding the adult education programs budget into the organizational budget process
  • Prepare financial and program reports
  • Record information on and prepare reports concerning adult education programs, costs, numbers of participants, equipment and facility use
  • Provide monthly and yearly reports about adult programs and opportunities
  • Ensure that all programs, activities, and volunteers are implemented and operating according to relevant policies and procedures
  • Complete all required reports as designated by funding sources

 

Assist with Administration/Program Support

  • Train and supervise administrative volunteers
  • Support other Center educational programs on an as needed basis
  • Support additional administrative needs of office on an as needed basis
  • Work as part of a team with other SHC staff to accomplish overall organizational goals

Experience and Attributes: 
Ideal candidates for this position will share our commitment to our mission and to our values of compassion, inclusion, equity, and collaboration, and have related experience, including: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum two years’ experience in a human service organization; educational background and/or experience preferred
  • Ability to connect with others and forge strong relationships
  • Bilingual and bicultural in Spanish and English
  • Highly organized, analytical, IT-competent – proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to organize and maintain detailed records; complete necessary paperwork and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter and highly motivated
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details, a strong customer service focus, excellent follow-up, and an ability to work with diverse groups in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to work independently and achieve goals
