Position: Famigos Youth Program Assistant Facilitator

Closing date for receipt of application: Two weeks from date of posting

Salary: Commensurate with experience, part-time position, approximately 5-7 hours per week.

Position Overview:

The Famigos Youth Program Assistant Facilitator is responsible for administering and implementing the Famigos program at the Sacred Heart Center in conjunction with the Famigos Program Facilitator and Youth Programs Coordinator. Famigos is a transition program for newly arrived Latinx high school students into the United States focused on mental health and building community among peers. This position reports to the Youth Programs Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and implement activities for Famigos weekly program

  • Coordinate and prepare weekly student sessions and some special field trips, including communicating with partners, staff, parents, and students, and obtaining all supplies and food as needed, in conjunction with the Famigos Program Facilitator.
  • Schedule activities, facilities, and volunteers as required.
  • Supervise and lead activities for youth.
  • Work with SHC staff to identify program partners and module providers, and to ensure logistics, such as transportation, are planned .
  • Train and oversee any volunteers that work with the program.
  • Work with Partner Teacher at partner school to conduct marketing and outreach to promote the program, in coordination with the Youth Programs Coordinator.
  • Encourage and recruit youth to participate in the program.
  • Obtain, when necessary, parental support and consent for activities and field trips.
  • Monitor the use of equipment and facilities.
  • Record information on and prepare reports concerning Famigos program, costs, numbers of participants, equipment and facility use.
  • Ensure that all Famigos activities and volunteer screening and onboarding are implemented and operating according to relevant policies and procedures.

Other tasks

  • Attend team and all-staff meetings as available
  • Support other Center youth programs on an as needed basis
  • Work as part of a team with other SHC staff to accomplish overall organizational goals

Experience and Attributes:

Ideal candidates for this position will share our commitment to our mission and to our values of compassion, inclusion, equity, and collaboration, and have related experience, including: 

  • Minimum requirement: 4-6 years post high school work experience OR current college/university student in their Junior or Senior year; Preferred: Associate’s degree and a minimum two years’ experience in a human service organization OR bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with and/or understanding around the unique needs of Latinx youth recently arrived to the United States.
  • Ability to connect with others and forge strong relationships, especially youth
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required; bicultural preferred.
  • Highly organized, analytical, IT-competent – proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to organize and maintain detailed records; complete necessary paperwork and meet deadlines
  • Exemplary record of strong communication skills and customer service focus, excellent follow-up, and an ability to work with diverse groups in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and to work one to two afternoons/evenings a week and occasional Saturdays is necessary
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for SHC’s mission
