Each year it is one of our organizational goals to be able to provide our community with tools to thrive and flourish. In recent years, we’ve learned that registering for our programs was somewhat difficult for some of our students. For this reason, our staff took the initiative to expand registration and spearhead a MEGA REGISTRATION this January.
Registration for all of our programs was extended to a full week in which students had the time to register for and take advantage of our extensive portfolio of offerings.
The turnout was so great in our community that we filled several of our ESL sections on the second day of registration, but with the wonderful support of our volunteers and staff members we managed to open one more ESL class. Thank you to those that helped us make this happen!
A total of 292 students enrolled in our adult education programs and classes, and 150 total enrolled in our programs for youth and children. Within these programs we have 28 families to whom we will be offering transportation throughout the semester so that they can make it to their classes. We want to extend a warm GRACIAS to all that helped make the MEGA REGISTRATION a success!

Alfonso, our art program facilitator, has transformed a piece of paper and a pencil into a home. To him, home is more than where you live — it’s encouraging youth in our community to celebrate their identities. Check out his recent TEDxYouth talk!
Every day at the Sacred Heart Center, we have people whose hearts and souls nourish our community through their service. Our dedicated volunteers are and always will be the backbone of the Center. Even on the hardest days, we know that we can count on them — they always give their best to offer knowledge and support to our community through their leadership and service!
On a weekly basis we have 80 active volunteers total coming in to the Center, who help us run daily programs, assist with administrative logistics, and organize our donation room.

Sacred Heart Center Director Named a
Richmond History Maker
We are very proud of our executive director, Tanya Gonzalez, who was chosen as one of this year’s Richmond History Makers by the Valentine Museum for her constant and unconditional support of Latino families, immigrants and people of color in Richmond, Virginia. Tanya Gonzalez’ leadership in our organization has allowed us to positively impact thousands of families in our community.

Gently used, CLEAN stuffed animals or SMALL one piece toys (eg. action figures or cars). Please DO NOT bring us puzzles, games, legos, blocks, toys that have pieces, toys that need batteries, electronic toys, costumes, or anything larger than a lunchbox.
School Supplies – including new or clean, gently used backpacks.
Food for Bainbridge Community Food Pantry and/or our emergency pantry – non-perishable, non-expired food, boxed or canned.
