Adult Education GED Program
Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30 AM–12:30 PM and 5:00 PM–9:00 PM
Location: In-person (classroom-based instruction)
The GED Program offers instruction in the four core content areas— Language Arts, and Social Studies—in Spanish. The program is designed to help adult learners review previously acquired concepts at an accelerated pace in preparation for the GED exams. Students are expected to complete all subject area tests and earn their GED certificate within 1.5 to 2 years. Instruction is delivered in 12-week semesters offered year-round. Students must re-enroll each semester to remain active in the program.
Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic GED Teacher to provide in-person instruction in Spanish for Language arts and Social Studies. The ideal candidate will foster a positive and engaging classroom environment, maintain accurate records, and collaborate with program leadership to support student success.
Teaching Schedule
●Instruction: Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30 AM–12:30 PM and 5:00 PM–9:00 PM
●Weekly GED Team Meeting: Time TBD
●Weekly 30-minute meeting with GED Lead Teacher: Day/time TBD
●Excludes holidays
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Planning
●Deliver high-quality, engaging lessons in Spanish aligned to GED standards.
●Develop and submit long-term instructional plans to the Adult Education Program Coordinator at least one week in advance.
●Submit weekly lesson plans to the GED Lead Teacher at least one week prior to instruction.
●Create and administer assessments to measure student progress and inform instruction.
Assessment, Feedback & Recordkeeping
●Provide students with timely verbal, written, and diagnostic feedback.
●Record and report daily attendance and student progress.
●Conduct weekly outreach calls to students with frequent absences to document reasons and offer support.
●Communicate any classroom issues or concerns to the GED Lead Teacher and Program Coordinator.
●Maintain accurate and up-to-date lesson plans, progress notes, and attendance records using shared spreadsheets.
Student Support & Progress Monitoring
●Establish and review classroom expectations regarding attendance, performance, and behavior with students during the first week of class; reinforce as needed.
●Monitor and promote the academic progress and well-being of students.
●Support students in preparing for GED subject exams and assist with the exam registration process.
●Track student test dates and exam outcomes.
Qualifications (Preferred)
●Experience teaching adult learners in an academic or GED preparation setting.
●Fluency in Spanish and English.
●Experience with Google classroom, Microsoft Office, and familiarity with Apricot.
●Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
●Familiarity with GED exam content and structure.
●Ability to work collaboratively with a team and adapt to program needs.
