Position Overview:
The After-School Youth Program Facilitator is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, and day-to-day administration of all or parts of our after-school programs at Sacred Heart Center. These programs may include: Famigos, Puentes al Futuro and College and Career Bound (CCB). They are a newcomer program, a mentoring program, and a college access program, respectively. The candidate will also support other Center youth programs as needed.
This position plays a vital role in empowering Latin youth by creating engaging educational opportunities, fostering leadership development, strengthening community connections, and supporting students as they prepare for future academic and career success. The facilitator works collaboratively with students, families, volunteers, partner schools, and community organizations to ensure high-quality program delivery while maintaining compliance with organizational policies and grant requirements.
This can be a year-round position, but the work mostly happens during the 10 months that programming is in session, which includes falls, springs, and sometimes summers. This position reports to the Manager of Program Capacity and Youth Education
About Famigos
Famigos is an afterschool program serving Meadowbrook High School students who have moved to the area in the last 4 years. The program is designed to support students in learning more about the Richmond metropolitan area as well as building community in a new place.
About College and Career Bound (CCB)
College and Career Bound (CCB) prepares Latino students at Hermitage High School for life after graduation. Through college exploration, career readiness, leadership development, and more, students gain the knowledge and confidence needed to pursue higher education, technical training, military service, or meaningful employment.
About Puentes al Futuro
Puentes al Futuro serves Latino middle school students who have been in the United States for fewer than three years at the time they enroll in the program. The program connects students with Latino professionals from the Richmond region who serve as mentors and positive role models, providing guidance and encouragement. Through mentorship and social-emotional learning, the program helps students successfully acclimate to life in the Richmond, Virginia community while fostering confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate engaging weekly after-school programming for Famigos, Puentes al Futuro, and/or College and Career Bound (CCB).
- Develop and deliver culturally responsive activities that promote academic success, leadership, social-emotional growth, and community engagement.
- Coordinate curriculum, lesson plans, educational activities, guest speakers, workshops, and field trips alongside the youth programs coordinator.
- Ensure all activities are safe, engaging, age-appropriate, and aligned with program objectives and grant requirements.
- Prepare program materials, supplies, and meals in collaboration with the youth programs coordinator.
- Build trusting relationships with youth participants and create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding attendance, program activities, student progress, and upcoming events.
- Encourage student participation, leadership, and personal development through mentorship and positive youth development practices.
- Support students by connecting them and their families with available wraparound services when appropriate.
- Collaborate closely with partner school staff, teachers, counselors, and administrators to recruit students and monitor academic progress.
- Conduct outreach and recruitment efforts to increase student participation and program visibility.
- Foster positive relationships with community partners, presenters, volunteers, and local organizations that support youth development.
- Ensure volunteers receive appropriate orientation and ongoing support to create a positive volunteer experience while maintaining compliance with organizational policies.
- Maintain accurate and timely program documentation, including:
- Registration forms
- Attendance records
- Parent consent forms
- Evaluation tools
- Outcome measurements
- Grant reporting data
- Financial and expense records
- Help the youth program team prepare reports required by funding agencies and organizational leadership.
- Ensure all program activities comply with Sacred Heart Center policies, grant requirements, youth protection standards, and volunteer management procedures.
Logistics & Operations
- Coordinate transportation schedules with the youth programs coordinator and the youth program assistant to ensure safe and timely transportation for participants.
- Prepare facilities before and after programming, ensuring classrooms and activity spaces remain organized, safe, and welcoming.
- Support planning and implementation of special events, celebrations, family engagement activities, and educational field trips.
Organizational Responsibilities
- Collaborate across departments to advance Sacred Heart Center’s mission and strategic goals.
- Participate in staff meetings, department meetings, professional development, and required trainings.
- Represent Sacred Heart Center professionally within schools, partner organizations, and the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Attributes:
- Associate’s degree with at least two years of experience in a nonprofit, educational, youth development, or human services organization, or
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
- Four to six years of post-high school work experience, or
- Current junior or senior at an accredited college or university.
- Experience working with youth, families, or educational programs.
- Strong ability to build positive relationships with adolescents from diverse backgrounds.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required; bicultural strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of positive youth development principles and trauma-informed practices preferred.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite and other technology platforms.
- Ability to maintain confidential information and accurate records.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated customer service orientation and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Salary: $15-25 hourly, Commensurate with experience, Limited part-time position, approximately 18 hours per week.
