POSITION: BILINGUAL ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM FACILITATOR

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is an onsite/in-person part-time position, 20 hours/week. The hours required for this position are typically 4-9pm Mondays/Wednesdays and 4-8pm Tuesdays/Thursdays, with the remaining 2 hours for 1-1s with supervisor, and team meetings.

Summary: The Bilingual Adult Education Program Facilitator provides planning, implementation, administrative, and logistical assistance and support for one or more of the Adult Education programs offered at Sacred Heart Center: ESL, GED, Citizenship, Plaza Comunitaria, and/or Conversational Spanish.

Supervisor: Mauricio Soria, Adult Education Programs Coordinator. Expected to interact and collaborate with other departments and staff.

Working Relationships: Is a member of and interacts with all other members of the Adult Education team; interacts with all other departments: Youth Programs, Volunteer Engagement, Operations, Development, and Communications, among others.

Responsibilities and Tasks: The Bilingual Adult Education Program Facilitator encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including but not limited to the following:

  • Provide planning, implementation, administrative, and logistical assistance and support for one or more of the Adult Education programs.
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of curricula; provide onsite support for teachers, paid and unpaid.
  • Assist with student recruitment, registration, enrollment, and program data collection.
  • Track and analyze data to measure impact and evaluate programs against strategic objectives.
  • Observe and/or evaluate classroom staff, both paid and unpaid, to ensure the quality of the programs.
  • Work as part of a team with other Sacred Heart Center staff to accomplish overall organizational goals.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Performance Appraisal: Performance is generally appraised annually.

Physical Demands:

  • The ability to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time, as the role may involve attending events, meetings, or conferences.
  • The capacity to move around the office, event venues, and other locations as required, including the ability to climb stairs, navigate uneven terrain, and carry out physical tasks associated with event setup and teardown.
  • Proficient use of hands and fingers to handle paperwork, operate office equipment, and perform tasks such as filing, typing, and data entry accurately and efficiently.
  • The ability to lift and carry event materials, supplies, and promotional items, which may vary in weight but could range from light to moderately heavy objects, 50 pounds.

POSITION: BILINGUAL CAREER NAVIGATOR

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is an onsite/in-person full-time position, 30 hours/week with benefits. The hours required for this position are typically 9am-3:30pm Monday-Friday.

Summary: The Career Navigator will provide individualized, culturally-affirming case management to enhance the ability of Latino individuals to identify and pursue their employment-related goals and achieve long-term financial stability.

Supervisor: Julia Cramer, Community Initiatives Coordinator. Expected to interact and collaborate with other departments and staff.

Working Relationships: Is a member of and interacts with all other members of the Community Initiatives team; interacts with all other  departments: Adult Education, Youth Programs, Volunteer Engagement, Operations, Development, and Communications, among others.

Responsibilities and Tasks: The Career Navigator works directly with individuals and families to provide employment- and career-related case management, workforce development coaching, and help with navigation of educational, training, and job opportunity searches and applications, and encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including but not limited to the following:

Provide career-related case management and workforce development coaching to participants

  • Conduct in-person and phone outreach, screening, and intake to determine eligibility in the program.
  • Assess participants’ needs and barriers, and identify internal and external resources and services that can address the needs and overcome the barriers.
  • Empower and assist program participants in developing an individualized career plan, and facilitate access to resources and services that will help participants achieve their goals.
  • Conduct strengths and skills assessments for participants.
  • Provide individual and group coaching and workshops on job readiness skills such as preparing a resume and cover letter, and interview dos and don’ts.
  • Collaborate and communicate with participants monthly to monitor individualized plans of action and assess progress towards goals; document all communications and encounters with participants.
  • Prepare reports as required by funders, for internal use, and for impact evaluation.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Connect participants to educational advancement, training, and job opportunities

  • Work with Community Initiatives, Adult Education and Youth Programs teams to identify current program participants and students who may benefit from career navigation; connect career navigation clients who are not current Adult Education students to SHC educational offerings such as GED and English classes that may help them achieve their career goals.
  • Assist participants in conducting educational advancement, training, and employment-related searches and in applying for all opportunities they are interested in and eligible for.
  • Support the Financial Empowerment Liaison in organizing education and job fairs and recruitment events.
  • Prepare reports as required by funders, for internal use, and for impact evaluation.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Descripción general de la posición

El maestro de matemáticas y ciencias de GED trabaja en el Departamento de GED del equipo de Educación de Adultos para brindar tutoría en español en matemáticas y ciencias y preparar a los estudiantes para aprobar los exámenes del área de contenido de matemáticas y ciencias después de cuatro semestres consecutivos de estudio. Las clases normalmente se ofrecen de 9 a. m. a 12 p. m. o de 6 a 9 p. m. los lunes y miércoles.

Responsabilidades clave

El maestro de matemáticas/ciencias de GED tendrá las siguientes responsabilidades principales:

Enseñando
Utilizar las guías curriculares proporcionadas para preparar y enseñar lecciones de alta calidad cada semana, incluidas evaluaciones para medir el progreso.
Trabajar con los estudiantes para garantizar que estén preparados para tomar y aprobar el examen de la materia de GED; ayudar a los estudiantes a registrarse para su examen GED.

Evaluación, retroalimentación y seguimiento
Documentar y brindar comentarios escritos/verbales y de diagnóstico según sea necesario, siguiendo las pautas y sistemas de informes proporcionados por el Coordinador de Educación de Adultos y el Asistente de Educación de Adultos.

Asistir a las reuniones semanales del equipo de GED y a las reuniones con el maestro principal de GED según sea necesario.

Apoyo y progreso estudiantil
Promover el progreso general y el bienestar de los estudiantes individuales en la clase.
Asegurar de que los estudiantes sigan las expectativas del programa con respecto al comportamiento, desempeño, ausencias, y tardanzas.
Notificar al Coordinador de Educación de Adultos sobre cualquier problema o desafío que ocurra, incluidas las necesidades generales que puedan tener los estudiantes (seguridad alimentaria, servicios de salud mental, etc.)

Experiencia y atributos requeridos

  • Habilidades avanzadas/nativas para hablar, leer, y escribir español son requeridas.
  • Al menos cinco años de experiencia docente y/o experiencia profesional.
  • Puntuación del 80% o mejor en el examen de diagnóstico realizado por el Centro Sagrado Corazón.
  • Conocimiento medio-alto del uso de computadoras, la plataforma Google Classroom, así como de Google Sheets y Gmail.
  • Capacidad para desarrollar planes de lecciones detallados y organizar y mantener registros detallados, completar la documentación necesaria, y cumplir con los plazos.
  • Debe poder permanecer en una posición estacionaria (sentado/de pie) durante las horas de trabajo.
  • Debe completar satisfactoriamente la capacitación obligatoria según lo especificado y demostrar competencia dentro de los plazos requeridos.

Horario: hasta 10 horas por semana – lunes y miércoles de 8:30 a.m. a 12 p.m. o 5:30 a 9 p. m. para la clase, y ahoras adicionales para planificación y reuniones, cuando los semestres están en sesión, aproximadamente 36 semanas por año. Los horarios en los que no hay semestres no están garantizados, pero pueden ofrecerse a discreción del Coordinador de Educación de Adultos si las necesidades del programa lo justifican.
